33,000 Steel Bolts Replaced on New U.S. Embassy
FEATURE
Steel bolts are being replaced on the top four floors of the new 12-story £650 million U.S. Embassy currently under construction in south London, the Construction Enquirer reports.
“The problems are on the top floors and could involve as many as 33,000 bolts,” a source told the Enquirer.
It will take around eight weeks to replace the bolts.
“It is understood that the bolts on the upper four floors were sourced from America by Harbert while the bolts below that were sourced domestically,” according to the Enquirer.
Replacing the bolts will disrupt operations like concrete floor pours on the upper levels.
Main co-contractor Sir Robert McAlpine “confirm(ed) that some bolts are being replaced. This does not affect the overall project schedule at all.”
Replacing all bolts at risk reportedly will continue to the end of 2015. @GlobalFastenerNews.com and Fastener + Fixing Magazine
