2010 FIN – Norway’s Dokka Building Plant in Michigan
October 22, 2010 FIN – Norway’s Dokka Fasteners will expand by opening a facility in Michigan, WIFR reports.
Dokka considered establishing a facility in Rockford, IL, but received better incentives from Michigan.
Rockford incentives reportedly included offering to build Dokka a new facility. But worker’s comp and property tax rates were high there, WIFR reported.
“It comes down to what’s the cost of making that item and if it’s too expensive in Illinois they go to a state where it’s less expensive,” said state senator Dave Syverson.
Syverson said Illiniois has lost more jobs — an estimated 500,000 — than any other Midwestern state over the last decade.
Dokka Fasteners, an Arvid Nilsson company, has 87 employees that manufacture fasteners for wind turbines, drilling rigs, cranes and masts. Headed by managing director Kai Glæserud, the company is located at Vinjarmoen, NO-2870 Dokka, Norway. ©2010 Fastener Industry News
