May 24, 1993 FIN – TriMas Corp., Ann Arbor, Michigan, the parent company of Lake Erie Screw Co., Lakewood, Ohio, is establishing an “all-new operation that will compliment Lake Erie Screw.”

The land has been purchased in Frankfurt, Indiana, a contractor has been selected, and construction is about to begin on a significant, new fastener manufacturing operation – TriMas Fasteners Inc.

This facility will principally produce fastener for Lake Erie Screw customer with the “LE” headmarking and its operations will be coordinated by the Lake Erie Screw management team.

It is anticipated that a fully integrated plant will be completed over the next four to five years, occupying approximately 275,000 sq ft, employing more than 100 people, and having the capability of producing in excess of 50 million pounds of bolts and screws annually.

TriMas Fastener, Inc. will feature the latest in boltmaking technology, with carefully selected boltmakers and parts formers.
Representing state-of-the-art in the world of fastener manufacturing, the operation will eventually include wire preparation and heat treating facilities, as well as plating capabilities and special packaging and handling abilities to meet customer-specific requirements.

Because of the forecast for improved economic conditions in 1993, there is a need for immediate increased boltmaking capacity for the company.
An interim location has been established in a leased facility near Lafayette, Indiana, to accommodate newly-purchased boltmaking systems. TriMas expects to be production capable beginning in June.
The addition of these boltmaking systems will significantly augment Lake Erie Screw’s current capacity in 1/4″ through 5/8″ diameter fasteners. They will also offer new opportunities in the second half of 1993 for expanded sales in both OEM’s and distributors.
The new TFI plant will concentrate on the production of standard hex cap screws, both inch and metric. Certain special engineered fasteners will be produced to blueprint specifications, along with selected new product lines.
Initially, TFI will feature hex flange bolts in both inch a metric sizes.

Sales from the TFI facility will be handled by the existing sales force of Lake Erie Screw.

TriMas Corp. has 15 companies with Monogram Aerospace Fastener, Commonwealth Industries, Eskay Screw Co. and Lake Erie Screw Corp. comprising its fastener segment. TriMas Fasteners will be the fifth fastener group member. ©1993/2010 Fastener Industry News
