1993 FIN – IFI Publishes Aerospace Fastener Glossary
February 16, 1993 FIN – The Industrial Fasteners Institute, Cleveland, Ohio, has a new 56-page Glossary of Terms which defines and illustrates the state of the art in aerospace fastening technology. Developed by IFI’s Division VI Aerospace Fasteners, the glossary encompasses a full range of terms associated with design, manufacture, application and use of precision aircraft/ aerospace fasteners.
Many terms generic to conditioned in everyday workplace conditions, or to other specialized disciplines, are addressed here as they specifically apply to the unique fasteners used in aircraft, rocket and space vehicle structures and their propulsion systems.
The terms defined have been sorted into the following general subject categories:
• Assembly and Torque
• Metallurgy
• Cleaning, Platings & Coatings
• Configuration
• Heat Treating
• Machining
• Properties
• Testing & Measurement
• Tolerancing
• Miscellaneous
