1989 FIN – Black & Decker Completes Acquisition of Emhart
July 26, 1989 FIN – Black & Decker, Towson, Maryland, finalized last week the $2.8 billion acquisition of Emhart Corp., formerly headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut.
As we reported in previous issues of FIN (June1 and July 10), Emhart is in the process of closing its Farmington office and has relocated it’s top management to Black & Decker’s Towson headquarters.
Peter Scott, former Emhart chairman is now Black & Decker’s chairman, and Nolan Archibald, former Black & Decker chairman, is now president and chief executive officer.
There is some speculation in the fastener industry that Black & Decker, which traditionally has supplied hardware and distributor markets, may look for a buyer for Emhart’s OEM businesses. Those businesses would include the Helicoil and Gripco divisions. ©1989/2013 Fastener Industry News
