1986 FIN – NFDA Introduces "Total Measurement Tool" for Fasteners
June 10, 1986 FIN – The National Fastener Distributors Association introduced the “T.M.T.” or Total Measurement Tool for measuring and identifying a vast array of fasteners.
With the TMT fastener people will no longer have to describe fasteners as “looking something about the size of a bullet with a head looking like a derby and a point like an ice cream cone.”
TMT combines information about diameter and threads, length head styles, types, pitches, etc. on six 3″,5″ plastic cards which are grease proof and attached to a key chain which allows the addition of more cars as they become available.
The all-inclusive tool has info on both American threads and metric and also contains a drill decimal equivalent chart a nut identifier, a conversion table of inches/millimeters and even steel grade markings.
Dave Tuttle, vice president of Spencer Products Co., was the moving force behind NFDA’s development of the TMT and Judy Matthews, Secure Fasteners & Tool, is special projects chairman.
