1985 FIN -Bethlehem Steel Bows Out of Fastener Manufacturing With Sale of 1882 Pennsylvania Plant

June 27, 1985 FIN – Bethlehem Steel Corporation has bowed out of the fastener industry.
The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, steelmaker announced it has reached a preliminary agreement to sell a major portion of its 100-acre Lebanon, Pennsylvania, plant as an ongoing operation to a group headed by Minnesota businessman Lawrence J. Poe.
The Lebanon operation began in 1882 as the Pennsylvania Bolt & Nut Company. Bethlehem Steel Corporation acquired the plant in 1917 from the former American Iron & Steel Manufacturing Company.
